Youness FKHACH 🇲🇦
Tell us a little about yourself and your background.
Youness Fkhach, I'm a Full-Stack Developer, with a master’s and bachelor’s degrees in computer science from Ibn Zohr University, from Agadir.
How long have you worked at Gemography?
I joined Gemography (ex-Hidden Founders) back in January 2018 as a Back-end Developer intern, 6 months later after ending my final year project internship for my master's degree studies, I got matched with Fluicity (a French tech startup) as a full-time remote Full-Stack Developer.
Prior to that, I was given the opportunity to enroll in a 1-month coding bootcamp with Gemography so I could learn more about Ruby on Rails framework.
How did you first hear of Gemography?
Mostly from my circle of friends and classmates, and social media job Ads.
How's remote work going for you? Any advice you could give to people starting a new job while working from home?
It's going great. I think the “as long as you get your work done, spend your day how you see fit” motto has made the flexibility expand with remote work. My advice would be to be proactive to connect with teammates, join random casual chats, share memes, simply take advantage of any given opportunity to connect with people you work with. Personally, I was lucky enough to travel to France to meet Fluicity team members in person in NYE 2019 and join them on their team-building activities back in April 2019. It was an amazing experience.
What's your current tech stack?
I work mainly with Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, and React.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Nothing in particular I'd say. I do play videos games but I'm not that much of a hardcore gamer. Used to spend thousands of hours playing Counter-Strike a couple years ago. Now my go-to is enjoying the outdoors and traveling. I love to explore new places. Living in the South (Agadir) means 80% of my time outdoor is spent by the beach.
What was your dream job when you were a kid?
I've never been into "dreams" – I knew when I was younger, that whatever I dreamt of, I probably wouldn't get to it because life changes a lot as we get older. – On a funny note, in middle school my 'dream' job was to sell watermelons.
